03/08/10 Seasons Best   The Seasons best page has been updated with last nights 10k results. There's 27 days left in our competition year - so still time to get improve your performance !

 

02/08/10 HC Champions   This year's club champions are Helen Brown and Keith Measures. It was Keith's 3rd time of taking the title - his first win was in 1996 and then again in 2007.  For the full results see the HC 2010 page. Both athletes will go on to receive awards at our annual Presentation night.

 

01/08/10 Club's Handicapped   Our club's H/C road race championships take place at Long Bennington on Thursday 2 September - see the Handicap webpage for more details.  Afterwards at the Royal Oak pub opposite - all welcome. Lots of real ale, the chance of a bite to eat and a quiz night. All club members are welcome (min age 16).

 

28/08/10 Vo2 Calculator   A new Vo2 max calculator has been added to the tools/calculators page

 

24/08/10 Beginners   Our Joggers group has also got it's own Facebook page - check it out from the Beginners page.

 

22/08/10 Networking   A social networking page has been created. It is in it's infancy and will develop as time goes on. It's proposed that links to Twitter and Facebook will be on there in the near future - we can then use these platforms for distributing news and important information etc - any ideas or help with this project will be much appreciated and  gratefully accepted. Thanks go to Bindi for her help setting this up initially.

 

21/08/10 Newton's Fraction   The planning has started for next years race. The team are thinking of moving the race 2 weeks later to Sunday 20 March - make a note in your diary.

 

13/08/10 RSS Feeds   RSS feeds functionality has been added to this website. You can now get the latest important information straight to your browser (or mobile device) without having to trawl our web. Just click the Subscribe to GAC RSS feeds link or click the orange icon at the top of your browser - then choose Subscribe to this feed. You can also tick the option to add it to your Favorites bar. Feeds can easily be deleted so don't be afraid to have a play. If you are having problems getting this working, please let us know - it may be our fault .

04/08/10 Presentation Night   It has been confirmed that Paul Dickenson will be our guest of honour at this year's Presentation night on Thursday 8 December. Awards will be made to road runners for the top 'season's best' performances and 'h/c' winners.

 

03/08/10 Adidas TR24   The full results are now available on the Pro-Velo website. Our squad of 8 actually came 10th out of the 72 teams - well done all.

26/07/10 Adidas ThunderRun 24 hour   Our entry for a team of 8 has been accepted for the Adidas TR24. This is a 24 hour relay event where each runner runs a 10k off road course. Some runners could end up running 5 x 10k !  The event starts at 2pm on Saturday and ends after 2pm on Sunday. The runners are: Sophie Stanley, Becki Shallard, Catherine Payne, Helen Brown, Arthur Short, Phil Hall, Stuart Sinclair and Paul Davidson.

  

25/07/10 Lincs/Notts Air Ambulance   Gravity FM handed over a cheque for £420 to the Lincs/Notts Air Ambulance on our behalf last week. The presentation was done live on air accompanied with a brief chat about the invaluable service performed by the helicopter team. Well done to all that raised sponsorship money.

23/07/10 Beginners Daytime Session   A Beginners daytime session will start on Friday 6 August (10:15 for 10:30am run). The runs will take place for a block of 10 weeks. The timing is perfect for anyone wanting to tackle the Cancer Research Run 10k in Lincoln on 10 October. All the sessions are free. 

 

06/07/10 Marijke   We have just heard that Marijke is still suffering with injury problems. She is going to the physio on a regular basis and jogging gently 3 times a week. She says "Hi to everyone" and hopes to be back with us soon.

 

04/07/10 Profile Added   Tony Madge's profile page has been added to the website.

 

03/07/10 Nutrition Questionnaire   A nutrition questionnaire has been added to the calculators section. You can test yourself to see if you have got a healthy eating regime. Questions and analysis provided by Mistrelle Baker/University of Lincoln.

 

26/06/10 Coach Outing   We are really pleased to announce that we have just added Grace Plant, Helen Brown and Jan Anderson to our coaching team. The trio who recently took their LIRF courses are now qualified and insured (& CRB checked) to lead our various training nights. Well done girls.

If there is anyone else that would like to join our coaching squad, please let us know (you don't need to be a fast runner).

 

21/06/10 Catherine in Pain   We are sorry to hear Catherine Payne took a tumble whilst racing at Stathern on Sunday. We hope you are soon patched up.

 

18/06/10 Summer Solstice Run   This year the solstice lands on Monday 21 June. If you would like to join us on the run we are departing from the Meres Leisure centre at 6:45pm (with the Beginners) We leave the Beginners on the canal towpath and then head for our destination, the Royal Oak at Long Bennington. The route is a testing 12 miles (approx 2 hours running). If you are interested please let me know so transport details can be formalised.

12/04/10 Barrier Smashed   Tony Madge smashed through the National Class 80% barrier yesterday with a blistering run in the Hose 1/2 marathon. His 1:23:18 performance gave him an Age Grade performance of 81.76. See Seasons Best

 

11/04/10 Grantham Cup Latest    The latest coup pulled off by Feena and team, is that they have secured the services of Henry Symington, the famous TV eventing commentator.

 

02/04/10 Grantham Cup    
Just in case you have been living under a stone for the last few weeks - the club is promoting a new race: The Grantham Cup. This is a multi-terrain 10k race which is taking place at Belton House in conjunction with the Horse Trial event. So if you aren't taking part in the Lincs T&F match on Sunday 18 April why not get your entry in. There may also be the opportunity to help marshal - if you want to get involved please contact Feena Machin 01778 441137

02/04/10 10k Everyday Party    
Tim Bridle is having a 10k Everyday Party celebrating the success of the challenge so far and would like to invite you to join him. There is a Live band "Fused" with Simon Shaw & Disco in aid of Cancer Research; £5 on the door all of which will go to the charty. A great opportunity to join Tim for a drink and have a fun night. To help with the planning and the Hotel etc it would be useful if you could let him know you would like to go.

We have a number of the 2010 Newton's Fraction T shirts for sale. These latest technology tops are fantastic to train in. We can offer them at the price of £4 due to bulk purchasing for our race. These can be purchased from Jackie Bainbridge at the SK Stadium on Wednesdays (7:30pm) or from Paul Davidson at Road sessions and various other times. 02/04/10 Sponsor Money    
Just a reminder if you were collecting sponsorship money for your efforts in the Little Apple fun run on 7 March. We are hoping to make the presentation to our 2 chosen charities in the near future, so if you haven't handed in your money yet could you please do so as soon as possible. The money should go to Jackie Bainbridge, the address is on the form (please don't send cash through the post). Else you can hand it in at the stadium on a Wednesday night at training (after 7pm).

19/03/10 Newsletter   The April edition of the club newsletter has just be emailed out. It can also be downloaded along with past editions by clicking here. Paper copies will be distributed to members without email facilities.

24/02/10 Steve Gould   We are sorry to announce Steve's resignation - he has moved permanently up to Billinge (Wigan, Lancs).  We will all miss his no-nonsense training sessions. He also tells us Vicki Greenall is competing in the London marathon shortly - good luck Vicki. They would both like to thank everyone at the club for the good times they shared with us.

 

19/02/10 Carnival Miles   It's been announced that Grantham AC will be resurrected the Carnival miles. The races will take place along the High Street before the procession on Saturday 19 June.

08/02/10 Triathlon Fixtures   The triathlon fixtures page have been updated. If you want any advice on any aspect of triathlon training or competition please feel free to contact our Tri experts Gavin and Neil Dowsett.

 

04/02/10 Lucozade Results   Emma Kingzett, the Lucozade Sports Scientist paid her second visit to us on Tuesday - this time to do a practical testing session. This included testing of urine samples and a pre and post training session weigh in - See the results.

 

03/02/10 New Calculator   A new Calorie Counter calculator has been added.

 

02/02/10 New Event   A new club venture - The Grantham Cup - A 10k trail race run in conjunction with Belton Horse Trials and BEDE Ltd has been launched today.

 

16/01/10 Gravity FM   It's been confirmed that Gravity FM will be starting this years Newton's Fraction. A number of local DJ's have also been challenged to compete in the Fun Run. For more info tune your radio to 97.2

15/01/10 Newton's Fraction Ale   The first 12 male and female finishers in our half marathon on the 7 March will all receive a bottle of Newton's Fraction Ale produced and kindly donated by Oldershaw Brewery.

 

12/01/10 Grantham AC on TV   Footage of a group of GAC road runners accompanying Tim Bridle on his first 10k run on New Years day can be seen online.

 

 

 

08/01/10 Beginners Night Cancelled   The forecast for the next few days remains very cold. This means the footpaths are still likely to be icy and dangerous for training. So regrettably there won't be any training on Monday 11th of January. Please see the Beginners page for the latest information.

 

01/01/10 10k Every Day - Day 1   Thanks to all the club runners that turned out to support Tim on the first day of his challenge today. The run started by Lady Sarah McCorquodale, was filmed by BBC Look North and local press and radio were there to capture the moment. The Ramada also supported the event by providing refreshments and sandwichs for the runners on their return.

01/01/10 With Great Sadness   We are very sorry to report that Sue Bradley has passed away. Along with husband, Stephen Bunn, Sue was a past member of the club and took part in many of the club's activities over the years. The cremation service will take place on Monday 11 January at 2pm.
