I have been running now for 21years ,quite by chance i decided one night to go for a jog as i was very unfit and unhappy with myself the jog turned into a 5mile run/jog/walk/crawl  and when i got home i was shattered ! But the buzz I got from that night quite literally changed my life ,three months after that i was on the start line for my very first race which was the Isacc Newton 10k race in Grantham ,i finished it in 41mins 04secs i think in football trainers!!  im guessing every runner remembers their very first race.

I run first claim for my home town Stamford Striders and second claim for Grantham AC and will be running for Grantham in next years London Marathon which will be my 15th Marathon.

Marathons are my favourite races and i have competed in many abroad including New York ,Copenhagen ,Malta and Paris where i achieved my P:B in 3hrs 15mins there is something about  Big City Marathons that i just love.

I Compete  in most races at all distances 5k(not my favourite these days),10k ,10miles and half marathons and off road but i must confess i worship tarmac as i don’t consider myself a very good off road runner i turn into the wibbly wobbly man!!

This year i became a Male Vet 50 so im looking forward to running and enjoying this new decade for my running.

My training is based on sound principles of running a mixture of hill work, long steady runs and track sessions including speed work at Grantham track where i have trained for many years .I try to focus my races to go hand in hand with my marathon training so quite a few will be longer, Folksworth 15,Stamford 30k and Oakley 20.

Personal likes are Watching Football Man utd and Posh fan, Horse Racing (wish i could run like one)Reading, music  and good company with friends.

Dont have too many dislikes so i guess thats not a bad thing.

In the Future my ambitions are to compete in Ultra Marathons which is one of Britains fastest growing sports

I have recently signed up for a UKA Level 2 coaching course so would like to put something back into the sport in helping runners achieve goals ,the same goals which have given me so many enjoyable moments in the sport of running .I have made some great friends in running and will meet many more over the coming years.

If i was to give one piece of advice in Running and that is:

In Marathons save half your Energy for the last third of the Race !!!

Previous Pbs for me have been:

Marathon : 3hrs 15mins @ Paris

Half Marathon: 1hr 25mins @ Great Eastern Run

10miles : 1hr 4mins @ Nene Valley Ten

10k : 39:04 @ Silverstone 10k
